Pines and evergreens dominate the landscape of Hillwood. Only a few coniferous hardwoods dot the forest. On rare occasion a small gnomish hunting cottage, wisps of smoke drifting up from its chimney, may be spotted in an open meadow.

An abundance of wildlife lives in the vicinity of Hillwood. Deer, moose, bears, squirrels, rabbits and other more elusive creatures make their homes in this highland forest.

The traveler is fairly safe on the eastern side of Loch Hwit. On the other side of the lake, the western portions of Hillwood are far less traveled and predatory life of all kinds lurks in the virtual wilderness. Probably the most dangerous creatures in the area are the orcs of the Death Finger Clan.

Waterfowl and other marine life of all descriptions team on the shores of Loch Hwit. This highland lake freezes in the winter and the seasonal snows blanket it in a shroud of cotton white which inspired the naming of the lake.

Hillwood provides a home for many of the gnomes in the region. A winding trail about 10 feet wide leads travelers to the gnomish town of Hwitdom. The rough trail makes for an uncomfortable journey by horseback but serves the gnomes – who travel mostly on foot – well.
