The Kingdom of Kent maintains a position of hegemony East of the Spineridge Mountains through the High King's wisdom and benevolence. Rulers from the kingdoms of Paladondia, Orange, Pel, Eirbron and Zorgos have signed treaties of alliance with the High King of Kent. The alliance of these kingdoms keeps the armies of the Empire of Roland in check.
Kent's hereditary ruler, Jed, is loved by his people. Through fair rule and responsible law he has brought economic and social boon to his country. The government is feudal and Jed is the final authority on all matters of state.
High King Jed, a religious zealot, has decreed the worship of Lilnana the official state religion. Other religions of good and neutral persuasion are tolerated, but in order to hold an appointed office Lilnana must be worshipped by the appointee. Worshipers of purely chaotic (Chaotic Neutral) or evil deities are not tolerated. Punishment for practicing an evil religion is public execution. Those caught worshipping chaotic deities are merely banished from the kingdom.
Gathered in the capital Kentborne Keep are the largest concentration of scholars and artists in all Fälgorna. Kentborne Keep and culture are synonymous. The bards and historians of Kentborne Keep have a reputation for being the best in all the world. A person seeking obscure knowledge would be well advised to scour the libraries of the city before researching elsewhere.
The human population of Kent is approximately 75 percent Arrakian. The other quarter of the population consists predominately of Fälgornians and Peradians. Eradians and Juads are the least common human race encountered. Over 10,000 Dwarves of the Tumanzahar clan live in the Misty Mountains. At least several thousand Dwarves live in the major cities of Kent. Almost 6,000 Elves, mostly Elberethi and Variquesti, live in the regions of the Dark Forest within the borders of Kent. At a minimum 4,000 elves of mixed clans live elsewhere in the kingdom. Gnomes live in the Rone Hills, but few venture into the human cities. The halflings of Kent live in various racial settlements peppered throughout the kingdom. Halflings living in the cities are few.
The standing armies of Kent consist of the following: Two legions of heavy cavalry (12,000), two legions of medium cavalry (12,000), two legions of light cavalry (12,000), six legions of heavy foot (36,000), three legions of light foot (18,000), three legions of polearmers (18,000), and three legions of archers (18,000). Four times this number of troops can be raised by the king from his feudal vassals.
The standing navy of Kent is small since it only patrols the inland sea of Rainbow Lake and the rivers. It consists of the following: 37 warships, 44 galleys, 148 small craft.
An order of knights known as the Protectors serve the High King as a personal bodyguard. They number about 500 and are all at least 4th-level.
